If you are a completely NEW school to the programme – and you have not used the Ambition ECT programme before – you must contact: craig.lilleyman@londondistricteast.org so that we can register you as a new school prior to you completing the steps below.
Registered schools with new ECTs
Register each ECT and Mentor with DfE portal and keep it updated: https://manage-training-for-early-career-teachers.education.gov.uk/
- Portal Questions: If you have any questions you can email: continuing-professional-development@digital.education.gov.uk
- ECT email addresses: If schools do not yet have work emails set up for their participants at the point of registration – an email address is a mandatory field – so you should add a personal email and edit it later.

What is the Early Career Framework?
September 2021 saw the statutory introduction of the Early Career Framework for all new teachers, regardless of training route. The ECF gives all Early Career Teachers an entitlement to a two-year Induction of high-quality training and in-school mentor support.
London District East Teaching School Hub will provide a fully funded programme in partnership with Ambition Institute offering:
- Two years of fully funded training for Early Career Teachers
- A dedicated mentor training programme
What does a typical week look like on the programme?
The engine room of this programme is the weekly meeting between the ECT and their Mentor, when instructional coaching techniques are used to improve the ECTs knowledge and skills based on the Early Career Framework.
What is the structure of the face-to-face training?
For ECTs:
- Two full day conferences in Year 1 (September and January) and one in Year 2 (September)
- Three clinics in Year 1 and in Year 2, all after school, on Zoom, from 3:45pm to 4:45pm.
For Mentors
- One full day conference to start the programme and a second before the start of Year 2.
- Two mentor clinics in Year 1 and 1 in Year 2, all after school, on Zoom, from 3:45pm to 4:45pm.
- Mentors also have three Coaching on Coaching 1:1 sessions across the 2 years of the programme.
What are the programme design principles?
Testimonials
Quote from a current Year 13 Mentor – Kate, Lead Practitioner (English), ECT Mentor and Literacy Lead:
“I am loving the program. I have been a mentor many times before in my 26 year teaching career, but this is by far the most rigorous and supportive. My ECTs have made such progress by taking a small, focused, rehearsed step at a time.”
Instructional Coaching
‘INSTRUCTIONAL COACHING IS THE NEW MENTORING’ WITH THE EARLY CAREER FRAMEWORK‘
Feedback from an ECT Mentor on their Coaching on Coaching session:
‘It was so useful! As this is all new to us, it was such a positive session to hear what I am doing right as well as identifying the next step. The Visiting Fellow was brilliant in explaining what was good – the ‘why’ is really useful so that I knew the impact it had on my ECT. The next step was very clear and everything we discussed was so helpful.
